In her day job she is also the designated finance officer lead for the 0-25 age group and Workforce Development Team for one of the largest London local authority. A role that she takes very seriously and one that links perfectly with her passion for empowering young people, which can be seen by her commitment of nearly 16 years in this role. This role has enabled her to raise her children as well as continue her work with MGUK and MGUKF CIC brands
As CEO of MGUK, Mavis and her colleagues have evolved it to become a beauty pageant with a difference, instilling the young ladies that participate with life skills, such as confidence building, cultural education and appreciation, mini life coaching and public presentation. Thus, giving them a strong platform that can be used as a springboard to their next steps and career, this can be evidenced by former contestants and winners using the pageant as a platform to pursue their career aspirations
Following the murder of her younger brother in 2001, Mavis made it her mission to inspire the next generation. And the MGUK foundation which was founded 17 years allows for this opportunity, that transcends both in Ghana and here in the UK, raising awareness and affecting change on issues such as youth violence, health education, mentoring and mental health support. This commitment allows for Mavis to have a stronghold in the Ghanaian community illustrating her investment in the change and successful growth of the UK Ghanaian, black and diaspora communities.
Mavis’s vision is to continue with her passion for helping and supporting young people to fulfil their full potential and to educate the older members of the black and UK Ghanaian community, supporting their health, children, and well-being.
